~After standing in a gararge for 4 years my 83 280SE started first time. the problem is that it will not change from 2 - 3 gears.[br]

The problem with your gearbox is "dirt" in a (centrifugal-ventil) I don't know if it spelled right. However you need an Automatic Transmision specialist to clean this (ventil). In Denmark where i live, the price is 500DM for fixing this problem. [br]
